Studio Pathways is a 26-week, fully free programme for rangatahi aged 15–24 who are not currently in work, school, or training. Delivered by Rāngai Limited in Tairāwhiti, it is funded through the He Poutama Rangatahi Youth Employment Pathways service of the Ministry of Social Development.

About the event

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE — SIX PHASES

Phase 1 · Weeks 1–4 | Foundations and Orientation

Camera basics, storytelling, design fundamentals, audio, pepeha on camera, CV introduction.

Phase 2 · Weeks 5–8 | Film Production

Pre-production, short film shoot and edit, DaVinci Resolve, documentary portrait.

Phase 3 · Weeks 9–13 | Animation and Graphic Design

Stop motion, character design, motion graphics, brand identity.

Phase 4 · Weeks 14–17 | Digital and Interactive Media

UX/UI, personal website, social media strategy, Reels/TikTok production, content creation for social media

Phase 5 · Weeks 18–22 | Live Production and Industry

Live studio broadcast, community documentary for real local client, employer speakers.

Phase 6 · Weeks 23–26 | Promotional Content and Showcase

Client brief, promotional video, sponsored livestream, portfolio curation and public Showcase Event.


WHAT PARTICIPANTS BUILD (PORTFOLIO)

• A self-directed video piece

• Social media content campaign (video + static)

• 2-minute short film (director/crew credit)

• Live broadcast recording with runsheet

• 90-second documentary portrait

• Community documentary/promotional video

• Stop motion animation

• Promotional video — long and short-form edits

• Brand identity package (logo, colour palette, guide)

• L.ivestream recording

• Animated logo/title sequence

• Showreel (2–3 mins), CV, and career goals plan

• Personal webpage (live or documented)


ABOUT THE PROVIDER

Rāngai Limited delivers Studio Pathways under an MSD Outcome Agreement as a He Poutama Rangatahi — Youth Employment Pathways provider (MR05.00218). 


Rāngai holds Level 3 Social Sector Accreditation and specialises in screen arts and creative industry education in Tairāwhiti. Our team includes industry-experienced tutors and pastoral support workers with strong connections across the Tairāwhiti employer and education network.


FURTHER PATHWAYS ON COMPLETION

All participants exit with a complete portfolio of creative work and a documented pathway plan.

The primary progression route is the Level 4 NZ Certificate in Content Creation - Studio Pathways is specifically designed to prepare rangatahi for this qualification.


Participants who do not yet hold NCEA Level 1 have the opportunity to work towards it during the programme.

Other pathways include direct employment in the creative industries, vocational training, or further study.


WHO IS THIS PROGRAMME FOR?

• Aged 15–24 at the time of enrolment

• Living in Tairāwhiti (Gisborne region)

• Not currently in employment, education, or training

• Facing barriers to employment - no qualifications needed, just willingness to engage

• Not currently enrolled in another similar HPR / MSD-funded wrap-around programme

• Participants do NOT need to be receiving a benefit to apply

• Life Coach sessions

• Driver licence support

• Wellbeing and counselling referrals

• CV, LinkedIn and portfolio building

• Support navigating MSD and agencies

• Workplace skills

• Whānau engagement and hui

• IRD / birth certificate assistance

• Post-placement support (26 weeks)
