About the event

Friday Filmmaking Programme - An Introductory Practical Pathway Into Screen Production The Friday Filmmaking Programme is a free, hands-on introduction to filmmaking designed for rangatahi who want to try something creative without committing to full-time study. This 20-week initiative is ideal for those not currently in education, employment or training (NEET), offering a fun and supportive environment to explore storytelling and screen production.

Each Friday, participants will collaborate as a film crew, working through every stage of production — from brainstorming ideas to a final screening. You’ll learn by doing, supported by experienced mentors using professional equipment in real-world studio settings.

This is a welcoming space for beginners. There’s no pressure to attend every session, and everyone will get the chance to try out different roles — whether in front of the camera, writing the script, recording sound, or editing the final cut.

What You’ll Learn

The programme is structured into four stages across 20 weeks, with each session focusing on a key part of the filmmaking journey:

Stage 1: Pre-Production (Weeks 1–5)

  • Creative storytelling and scriptwriting

  • Set and costume design

  • Casting and rehearsal

  • Location scouting and scheduling

  • Light introduction to budgeting and logistics

Stage 2: Production (Weeks 6–12)

  • Camera operation and sound recording

  • Acting and directing

  • On-set teamwork and safety

  • Capturing footage for the final edit

Stage 3: Post-Production (Weeks 13–17)

  • Editing video and audio

  • Colour correction and visual effects

  • Adding music and sound design

  • Assembling a finished film

Stage 4: Distribution & Celebration (Weeks 18–20)

  • Preparing the film for release

  • Creating a marketing plan

  • Hosting a local screening

  • Sharing the project online and in the community
